Direct metal laser sintering, or “DMLS” 3D printing, is a type of metal powder bed fusion that produces solid objects, using a precise laser source to induce fusion between very fine metal powder particles one layer at a time.

Most powder bed fusion technologies employ mechanisms for adding powder as the object is being constructed, resulting in the final component being encased in and supported by the surrounding metal powder. Rather than melt the powdered metal together, DMLS heats it to a point so that it can fuse on a molecular level to produce parts from metal alloys. Our EOS M100 3D printer is a DMLS machine, and can currently print in titanium and stainless steel.

As far as we know, we have the only metal 3D printer in Wyoming, and the only metal 3D printer in the Rocky Mountains available for members of the pubic to learn how to use.
