GDS101: Learning Adobe Illustrator

Adobe Illustrator

Software

Adobe Illustrator is one of the oldest and most well-known graphic design softwares available on the market today. Originally created for the Apple Macintosh in 1987, Adobe Illustrator has flourished for 30 years and is now an industry standard for graphic design software. It is capable of creating everything from personal logos and icons to intricate art pieces and maps.

Here in the Wyrkshop, we use Adobe Illustrator because it's simple to learn and operate, and powerful enough to get the job done. It uses vectors to create crisp graphics that can be scaled and resized. Projects from Illustrator look great everywhere, from the top of a letterhead to a 50-foot billboard. It even plays nice with other graphic softwares, such as Inkscape, allowing users to "plug and play" no matter what their home tech is.
